Grooming
High Maintenance - at least once a week with a brush and comb - Double coated breed (soft undercoat and harsh outer coat).
History
History suggest the breed dates back to the 1600s in the UK. They are related to a number of other small terrier breeds, and were bred to hunt vermin and small game.
Positives
Are suitable for children, over 7yrs and not advisable to rough treat any terrier, as this can make them nip and become aggressive. Individuals from this breed enjoy exercise at least twice a day.
Negatives
Grooming, high maintenance and if prospective owners do not have time, then it is advised that they do not purchase a pup from this breed.  A dominant breed - needs obedience training.
No road sense - needs to be kept on a lead. Needs human companionship- left on own for too long, can become excessive barker.
Conclusion: People often think because of their small size that this breed are similar in behaviour to the far more common Toy breeds - such as the Maltese. Nothing could be further from the truth however. This breed are true Terriers, which means they are a working breed and not a lap dog. This is something that very much needs to be taken into consideration when thinking about buying a pup.
